At some point, you must decide.
Four parts of grammar end at a threshold: the moment taste stops being learned and starts being exercised. Judgment is taste with consequences — the willingness to say this and not that, publicly, and to be the person who said it.
02 · Core principle
The personal canon.
A canon is your reference library made explicit: the twenty objects, rooms, garments, books and works you hold as standards. It is the taste equivalent of the one-minute portfolio — short enough to know completely, strong enough to test everything new against.
Assemble
List the works and objects you return to across every domain you care about. No aspirations — only returns.
Interrogate
For each, name which codes it masters. The canon teaches when it is understood, not merely admired.
Cap
Twenty entries. Admission requires eviction. The constraint is the point.
Apply
Everything new is read against the canon. Most things lose. That is the canon working.
03 · The hidden psychology
The fear of the verdict.
Declining to judge feels humble; it is often camouflage. Every taste claim risks being wrong in public, and the sophisticated evasion — 'it is all subjective' — spares us that exposure. But recall the board across these two rooms: everything of value was built by people willing to decide. Relativism is comfortable and produces nothing.

A life without a canon.
Permanent re-decision
Without standards, every choice starts from zero — the decision fatigue of Part III, generalized to everything.
Capture
The undecided eye is decided for — by algorithms, by rooms, by whoever speaks last.
Incoherence
